6MWh Gas-to-Grid AD Plant Turnaround
UK Gas-to-Grid AD PlantSituation
A 6MWh gas-to-grid and CHP anaerobic digestion site was performing significantly below expectations, with throughput below 20%, weak safety controls, no structured PPM programme and limited regulatory engagement.
Action
Stuart was redeployed to take full operational control. He conducted a comprehensive bottleneck analysis and PDCA review, implemented LOTO procedures, restructured maintenance planning, installed a structured site laboratory programme, developed SCADA-linked operational calculators for feed planning and led recruitment, training and direct management of the engineering team — while driving active P&L management and rebuilding relationships with the environmental regulator.
Result
Throughput improved from below 20% to an average of 50% while simultaneously strengthening compliance, safety culture and regulatory standing. The amine gas upgrader reliability and efficiency were significantly improved, and Value Stream Mapping was completed across both sites.
AD Plant Recovery Post-Explosion

An anaerobic digestion plant had been mothballed for 10 months following a major explosion, requiring complete operational reinstatement and recovery.
Action
Engaged via TIFT Services as Interim Site Manager (Jan 2024 – Mar 2025), Stuart led the full site recovery programme. He rebuilt safety systems from the ground up, developed comprehensive H&S documentation including SOPs, RAMS and compliance policies aligned to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, created SCADA-linked operational standards, and delivered training programmes from permit application through to commissioning.
Result
The plant was successfully reinstated and returned to full operational status. A robust safety and compliance framework was established, maintenance programmes were strengthened and full operational control was restored — transforming the site from a post-incident shutdown to a functioning, compliant operation.
160,000 T/Annum Food Waste Operation
UK Food Waste AD PlantSituation
A 5MW gas-to-grid AD plant processing 160,000 tonnes of food waste per annum and generating up to 14 million m³ of biogas required strong operational leadership to manage a large workforce, complex commercial operations and demanding performance targets.
Action
Stuart recruited, developed and managed a high-performing team of 18 staff. He implemented comprehensive health and safety strategies, introduced 5S methodologies across the site, managed end-to-end commercial food waste operations and drove continuous monitoring against agreed targets — while achieving and managing the PAS110 audit.
Result
The site became one of the most efficient plants in the business. A clean, safe and well-organised workplace was established through 5S, team performance was significantly improved, and PAS110 certification was achieved and maintained.
60GW Hybrid Site Commissioning
UK Hybrid Energy SiteSituation
A complex greenfield 60GW hybrid energy site combining multiple energy technologies required leadership from initial commissioning through to full, sustained operations — managing every phase of the operational lifecycle from day one.
Action
Stuart led the complete startup and commissioning process, taking the site from an empty greenfield asset through initial commissioning, system integration testing and performance optimisation into full commercial operations — establishing all operational procedures, safety systems, SCADA configuration, feedstock planning, maintenance programmes and team structures.
Result
The hybrid site was successfully brought from initial commissioning all the way through to full, sustained commercial operations — a complete lifecycle delivery demonstrating TIFT Services’ greenfield capability to take a site from a standing start to stable, compliant, commercially productive operations.
